More Information

Originally from Mexico, Francisco LOZA creates Arte de Estambre, or Pressed Yarn Art, by working on wooden surfaces that he covers in a combination of waxes that he mixes together to use as an adhesive base. Onto these waxed bases, LOZA intricately presses, cuts, and shapes yarn into his original artwork of multiple colors, sizes, depths, and concepts.

For his workshops, LOZA provides the following materials required for Arte en Estambre:

-Two (2) types of wax (only available in Mexico)

-Yarn of varying colors (yarn type found only available in Mexico)

-Instruments for pressing yarn

-Oil for cleaning hands

-Pre-cut flat heavy cardboard pieces or wooden surfaces (5 x 7 or 8x 10) for each participant

At this workshop you will learn the history behind this medium, the cultural significance, as well as the process and technique all mastered by Francisco Loza whose artwork has been exhibited at the American Visionary Art Museum, U.S. Department of State in Washington and in Brazil; Migration Policy Institute (Washington, DC); and exhibits at the Arlington Arts Center (AAC); Morgan Arts Council (Berkeley Springs WVA); and Keswick Wellness Center, Baltimore, MD.
